About

Benvenuti a tutti (Welcome Everyone)! You may see that I have changed my domain name from Become Italia to Become Italy – unfortunately my previous domain name was stolen and I have resorted to creating a new space in which to begin posting again. I plan to blog about my life here in the U.S. and “becoming Italian”. be COME italy is a name that we came up with meaning to “be Italian” and “like Italy”…meaning that you probably wouldn’t understand this if you didn’t speak Italian 😉 I am not of Italian descent at all, but I am fascinated and innamorato (in love) with the culture and how it fits into my everyday life.

Not to be a bearer of bad news, but I am not fluent in Italian…at least not yet. I am on a journey to become fluent in ‘la bella lingua’ (the beautiful language) and I understand more now than I ever did before. I am on my way to taking and (hopefully) passing the B1 language exam this summer. I will try and incorporate as much of my language learning into my posts as possible, but bear with me, the road ahead is not easy, but I do love a challenge!

I should share a bit more about myself as I know that some of you reading may know nothing and some may just think I’m a silly American girl obsessed with Spaghetti and Meatballs with an afternoon Gondola ride (note: Spaghetti and Meatballs does NOT exist in Italy and the Gondola, it’s about 80 Euro for a quick ride). I am in the beginning of my thirties, residing now in Boston (previously NYC, the best city aside from Roma) with my fiancé, who happens to be full-blooded Italian. He’s from Genoa, a large city in the northwest coast of Italy known for AMAZING pesto, focaccia and so much more. I work full-time in media and was once upon a time in pageants (what some of you may already know about me), but that is not who I am. I am free-spirited, love trying new things, always a traveler and a believer that love should be in the center of all things that I do. My home is Maine and I associate well with a simple, small town lifestyle even though my birthplace is Florida. I love the outdoors, have a passion for cooking (always), and I wish that I could have a pet penguin.

I look forward to sharing my experiences, learnings and everyday life as I explore being like Italy. Andiamo! (Let’s go)
